Contessa 32 Experience

We're passionate about sharing the joy of sailing aboard one of yachting's most celebrated designs. Whether you're considering purchasing a Contessa 32, want to experience classic yacht sailing, or simply love being on the water, we invite you to join us for an unforgettable day sailing the Solent.

Our yacht, Liamar, represents the finest traditions of British yacht design - seaworthy, comfortable, and a true pleasure to sail. Based in the sailing capital of Cowes on the Isle of Wight, we explore the Solent's diverse waters from the Needles to the Nab Tower, offering informal sailing experiences for small groups who appreciate the heritage and craftsmanship of this remarkable yacht.

Please note: These are informal sailing experiences shared among sailing enthusiasts. While we ask for contributions towards the running costs of maintaining a classic yacht (marina fees, insurance, and maintenance), this is not a commercial charter service.

Sailing the Solent

The Solent offers some of the finest sailing waters in the UK, with its mix of tidal challenges, historic ports, and stunning natural beauty. From our base in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, each day brings different possibilities depending on wind conditions, tides, and group interests.

Popular sailing routes

We might sail west past Yarmouth and Hurst Castle to see the dramatic Needles seastacks and Alum Bay, where the famous colored sands and white cliffs create an unforgettable backdrop. This Western Solent route offers spectacular views and often the best chance of dolphin encounters.

Alternatively, we can head east through the busy shipping lanes towards Portsmouth Harbour and the Chichester Channel, passing historic Spitbank Fort and Horse Sand Fort. Watch Royal Navy vessels share the waters with racing yachts, traditional sailing craft, and the Isle of Wight ferries.

For a gentler day, we might explore the Medina River or anchor in beautiful Osborne Bay near Queen Victoria's former residence. The Beaulieu River offers a peaceful alternative when conditions suit, with its unspoiled natural beauty.

Wildlife and natural beauty

The Solent is home to diverse marine life - we've been fortunate to encounter dolphins on numerous occasions, particularly around the deeper waters between Hurst Point and the Shingles Bank. Seals are sometimes spotted near Bramble Bank, and the birdlife is spectacular year-round.

Your day aboard

Whether you want to take the helm, learn to trim sails, practice navigation, or simply relax and enjoy the experience, we tailor each day to the group aboard. No sailing experience is necessary - we'll teach you as much or as little as you'd like to learn. Just bring warm, waterproof layers, non-slip deck shoes, and a sense of adventure. We keep groups small (maximum 5 guests) to ensure everyone can be as involved as they wish.
